“You expected to be sad in the fall. Part of you died each year when the leaves fell from the trees and their branches were bare against the wind and the cold, wintery light. But you knew there would always be the spring, as you knew the river would flow again after it was frozen.”
-Ernest Hemmingway
As I’m sure we all have, I’ve been experiencing a FULL range of emotions these last few weeks.
I don’t claim to be an expert, a guru, or an “influencer”. All I can offer is what has brought me comfort and kept me grounded during all this off-kiltered-ness:
Take many moments. Pause. Breathe. Notice the tender approach of Spring. The grass gets a bit greener every day. The earth warms slightly. The “peepers” in the pond have begun their songs.
When I start to get caught up in fearful news and worry, Nature reminds me daily that the earth will hold us, if we let her. Change is part of life, and throughout this “new normal” we remain cared for and loved.
ALL of this will shift, will move through like the cold winter winds. The fear, worry, even grief, is but a season in our lives. As Hemingway so beautifully said, “There will always be a spring.”
Sending all my love to you, wherever you are.
